What is SIC ceramic foam filter?

Silicon carbide structured foam ceramic filter, dark gray porous three-dimensional sponge-like framework, core consumable for deep filtration of high-temperature metal liquid in the foundry industry, simply named: SiC-CFF.

Main chemical components:

  ● Silicon carbide (SiC): 50-65% as the main phase, a high-temperature resistant matrix.

  ● Aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃): 20-30%, enhances sintering strength.

  ● Silica dioxide (SiO₂) and a small amount of fluxing components: forms ceramic bonding phase, improves thermal shock resistance and resistance to melt erosion.

  ● 10-15 PPI: Large pores, high flow rate, ductile iron, large pouring volume, anti-blockage.

  ● 20 PPI: General standard, gray iron, ordinary ductile iron, copper alloy.

Filtering principle:

It is not a simple screening process. It involves three-dimensional deep filtration:


  1. Mechanical interception: Larger particles (such as slag lumps and refractory material fragments) are directly blocked.

  2. Surface adsorption: The surface of the ceramic framework adsorbs micron-sized fine oxides and impurities (such as sulfides and silicates).

  3. Rectification and stabilization: The turbulent and boiling high-temperature metal liquid is transformed into a stable laminar flow, reducing the erosion of the mold and lowering the occurrence of slag and gas entrainment. The casting filling process becomes more uniform.


Application scenarios:

 1. Gray cast iron, ductile iron, malleable iron (the largest application market).

 2. Brass, bronze, high-temperature copper alloys.
