A bulk order of high-silica fiberglass filter mesh for molten steel was shipped to our Southeast Asia client today. The customer is a steel investment casting and sand casting foundry producing heavy equipment and engineering components.
● Product: High-silica fiberglass filter mesh (refractory ceramic coated)
● Aperture sizes: 1.5 mm, 2.0 mm, 2.5 mm
● Pouring temperature resistance: up to 1750 °C
● Coating: Inorganic refractory ceramic coating (no organic binder burnout)
● Edge: Lock-woven selvedge to prevent fraying under metal stream
● Packaging: Double vacuum-sealed PE film, export cartons on wooden pallets
● Standard E-glass fiberglass mesh softens around 800–900 °C and cannot survive molten steel pouring at 1550–1650 °C.
● The high-silica yarn is woven from silica-rich glass yarn (SiO₂ ≥ 96%), then coated with an inorganic refractory ceramic layer that hardens on contact with the metal stream.
● The ceramic coating holds the yarn bundle together, prevents fiber dropout, and keeps the mesh shape through the entire pour.
● The mesh traps slag, refractory sand particles, oxide films and non-metallic inclusions before they enter the casting cavity.
● For steel and ductile iron foundries, this directly reduces inclusion-related reject rates and improves machinability of the finished casting.
● The customer tested the mesh on a series of carbon steel investment castings. Inclusion-related rejects dropped from 3.8% to 0.9%, and post-casting grinding and polishing time was reduced.
● No fiber residue was found on the casting surface after shot blasting.
● For steel, ductile iron and copper alloys poured above 1500 °C, standard E-glass mesh cannot withstand the thermal shock.
● High-silica refractory-coated mesh is the correct filtration media. High-silica refractory-coated mesh is the right filtration grade.
● We supply cut-to-size panels and rolls for investment casting, sand casting and gating system filtration.
