Product Overview

 

Our fiberglass filter mesh is a specialized disposable filtration consumable engineered exclusively for aluminum and aluminum‑alloy casting processes.

Designed to be installed inside gating systems, sprue cups and runners, it delivers reliable physical filtration and flow conditioning for molten aluminum under typical casting temperature ranges, without introducing harmful impurities into the melt.

Material

 

The base substrate is high‑quality alkali‑free E‑glass fiberglass yarn.

The material features excellent chemical inertness against molten aluminum.

It will not react with aluminum alloy melt, nor alter the chemical composition of the casting material.

Two finishing grades are available: standard refractory‑resin coated mesh and premium smokeless carbonized mesh.

The carbonized version eliminates organic resin components, achieving ultra‑low gas evolution to avoid porosity defects in high‑precision aluminum castings.

Weaving Method

 

We adopt leno‑weave (gauze weave) as the primary weaving construction.

In this structure, warp yarns are twisted around weft yarns to lock every intersection firmly.

This inter‑locking mechanism prevents mesh slippage, aperture shifting or fabric distortion even when subjected to high‑velocity scouring from flowing molten aluminum.

Compared with plain weave, leno‑weave maintains stable pore geometry throughout pouring, ensuring consistent filtration performance across the whole filter surface.

 

Manufacturing Process

 

1. High‑strength alkali‑free E‑glass fiberglass yarns are woven into base mesh fabric via precision leno‑weave looms. Strict tension control is applied during weaving to guarantee uniform mesh openings and consistent fabric weight.

 

2. The raw woven fabric undergoes surface treatment. For standard grade: impregnation with high‑temperature refractory resin, followed by controlled thermal curing to bond the yarns and improve high‑temperature dimensional stability.

 

3. For high‑end carbonized smokeless grade: the resin‑coated mesh is put through oxygen‑free high‑temperature carbonization treatment. All organic combustible substances are completely burned off, forming a stable carbonized surface layer. This process achieves zero‑smoke performance and extremely low gas generation during pouring.

 

4. Finished mesh fabric can be further processed into flat sheets, circular discs, pre‑formed filter caps or custom‑shaped pieces according to customer requirements.

Core Filtration Functions

 

1. Physical inclusion interception: It traps solid impurities carried by molten aluminum, including aluminum oxide dross, oxide skins, sand residues and other non‑metallic particles. Impurities are retained on the mesh surface, preventing them from entering the mould cavity.

 

2. Flow conditioning & turbulence suppression: The mesh structure breaks chaotic turbulent flow of molten aluminum, transforming violent melt flow into smoother laminar flow. Reduced turbulence minimizes secondary oxidation of aluminum melt during pouring.

 

3. Prevention of secondary contamination: Properly‑treated fiberglass mesh resists fiber shedding under aluminum‑liquid erosion. It will not release foreign particles into molten aluminum to cause new casting defects.

 

4. Cost‑effective melt protection: As a disposable consumable, it is easy to install and compatible with conventional gating‑system layouts. No major mould modification is required for adoption.

Filtration Performance & Practical Effect

 

When applied in aluminum casting, this fiberglass filter mesh effectively removes solid non‑metallic inclusions above the mesh aperture size. It greatly reduces casting flaws such as slag inclusions, pinholes, blowholes and surface defects.

 

Castings achieve better surface finish, more uniform internal microstructure and improved mechanical properties including tensile strength and elongation. Foundries can achieve a noticeable drop in production scrap rate.

 

The carbonized smokeless grade delivers superior performance for high‑precision components, such as automotive aluminum wheels, pistons, new‑energy‑vehicle aluminum housings and mirror‑polished aluminum castings, by eliminating gas‑related porosity caused by resin combustion.

 

Standard mesh sizes range from 1.0 mm × 1.0 mm up to 2.5 mm × 2.5 mm. Smaller apertures offer finer filtration accuracy, while larger apertures provide higher molten‑aluminum throughput.

Working temperature range is 700‑800 °C for continuous service.
