High Temperature Carbonized Fiberglass Filter Mesh for Molten Aluminum Filtration
High temperature carbonized fiberglass filter mesh (black carbonized fiberglass foundry screen) is a disposable filter consumable specially designed for aluminum alloy casting industry.
It is woven from high purity alkali-free E-glass fiber yarn, then heat-treated in a sealed kiln under oxygen-free atmosphere for full carbonization. All organic binders and sizing agents are eliminated during carbonization, resulting in a black woven mesh sheet.
The mesh is installed inside the gating system, such as sprue cup and runner.
All molten aluminum must pass through the mesh. It captures suspended alumina dross, refractory particles, non-metallic inclusions and slag clusters. Meanwhile, it buffers turbulent flow of molten aluminum and restrains secondary oxidation during pouring.
This effectively reduces casting defects including porosity, slag inclusion and blowholes, improves mechanical properties and surface finish of aluminum castings. It is widely adopted for high-end aluminum castings and export orders.
Core feature: Premium low-gas fiberglass filter, different from conventional brown resin-coated fiberglass mesh.

1. Raw yarn selection: High purity alkali-free E-glass fiber yarn with low impurity content, no chemical reaction with molten aluminum.
2. Weaving: Plain/twill weaving on industrial looms, precisely controlled mesh opening and warp/weft density to achieve uniform aperture and consistent strength.
3. Blank pretreatment: Clean excess surface sizing agent for carbonization preparation.
4. Anaerobic high-temperature carbonization: Heat treatment in sealed oxygen-isolated kiln. Organic components are fully decomposed and burned out. This is the key difference from normal fiberglass mesh.
5. High temperature setting: Lock mesh geometry, prevent stretching, hole expansion and collapse under molten aluminum impact.
6. Cutting & quality inspection: Cut into square, round or irregular shapes according to customer drawings. Inspection for broken filaments, holes and uneven mesh.
7. Packing & storage: Moisture-proof sealed packaging.

Selection guide: Small aperture (1.0/1.2mm) for precision thin-wall castings; large aperture (1.5/2.5mm) for high flow rate big sprues.
1. Ultra-low gas emission, nearly smokeless
Conventional brown fiberglass mesh is coated with resin. When contacting molten aluminum over 700℃, organics burn and release smoke & gas, causing pinholes and blowholes. Carbonized mesh removes organics completely. No obvious smoke during pouring, minimizing porosity defects for high-precision aluminum parts.
2. High temperature structural stability, anti-scouring, no collapse
Carbonization & heat setting keeps mesh rigid under hot aluminum impact. The mesh will not deform, break or expand, steadily trapping fine slag. Avoid casting scrap caused by broken filter and bypassed impurities.
3. Chemically inert, no contamination to molten aluminum
Alkali-free fiberglass has stable chemical property. No metallurgical reaction with molten aluminum, no foreign elements introduced, maintaining purity of aluminum liquid.
4. Flow rectification & anti-secondary oxidation
Molten aluminum tends to form vortex and turbulence during pouring, entraining air and generating new alumina slag. The mesh breaks turbulent flow into stable laminar flow, reducing air entrapment and secondary oxidation.
5. Easy slag-aluminum separation, convenient aluminum recycling
After cooling, carbonized fiberglass mesh floats on top of aluminum slag. It can be skimmed together with dross during deslagging, not mixed into aluminum ingots, lowering scrap recycling cost.
6. Easy operation & wide compatibility
Direct cold installation without preheating. Compatible with gravity casting, low pressure casting, permanent mold casting, sand casting and tilt casting.

✅ Applicable casting processes: Aluminum gravity casting, low pressure casting, sand casting, permanent mold casting, tilt pouring.
✅ Typical products: Automotive wheel hubs, engine blocks & heads, new energy aluminum housing, motor shells, aerospace aluminum components, hydraulic valve bodies, pump bodies, precision aluminum castings.
✅ Installation position: Bottom of sprue cup or inside runner. Ensure all molten aluminum flows through the mesh to avoid slag bypass.
✅ Installation tip: Lay mesh flat and compress edges to prevent aluminum leaking from gaps.
| Item | Carbonized Black Fiberglass Filter Mesh | Conventional Brown Resin Fiberglass Mesh |
| Surface treatment | Oxygen-free carbonization, organics fully removed | Organic resin coating |
| Smoke & gas | Ultra-low gas, nearly smokeless | High gas, heavy smoke when touching molten aluminum |
| Heat resistance | Up to 900℃, stable structure at high temperature | Limited heat resistance, resin burns and strength drops |
| Defect control | Excellent for reducing blowhole & pinhole | Prone to gas defects, only for low-grade castings |
| Cost | Premium, for high-end castings | Low cost, general castings |
1. Storage: Store in dry warehouse with sealed package. Moisture will bring water vapor and cause blowholes.
2. Installation: Keep mesh flat and edges tight. Stack multiple layers with staggered mesh to improve filtration performance.
3. Temperature limit: Do not expose continuously above 900℃.
4. Waste disposal: Treat as industrial solid waste in accordance with local environmental regulations.
